The background story begins in space. Mike, Seth, Elise, and Flattie are traveling quickly to the planet "Burnt Toast" to stop the nefarious Shadowcolon. Unfortunately, Shadowcolon is aware of their quest to stop him.
Shadowcolon (the shorter one) holds a grudge against Mike and Seth, for they left him behind in a dark and dangerous cave. So, he takes a detour and stops to see a dastardly character known as the FLATENER. He gives him DARK ENERGY, which allows him to control asteroids within the area. So, the Flatener uses the dark energy and ends up breaking the teams spaceship in half, leaving them hurtling towards the planet ZOGBAR.
